Major United States Air Force (Retired) John H. (Lucky) Luckadoo
Born and raised on Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga, TN in 1922, Lucky attended public schools where he participated in the R.O.T.C. while in Chattanooga High School, and later attended the University of Chattanooga until enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps while in his sophomore year soon after Pearl Harbor.
Graduating from twin-engine flight school in February, 1943 along with 40 of his classmates was immediately assigned to the 100th Bomb Group, a B-17 bomber group just prior to being sent to England to join the Eighth Air Force. Being one of the first U.S. bomber groups in England, and without fighter escort, due to its early combat losses quickly became known as “the Bloody Hundredth”. This group flew 306 missions and lost more than 1,800 of their 3,000 young airmen in just two years. Serving as a Pilot and Squadron Operations Officer, he was one of only four of his original class-mates to survive 25 combat missions.
Earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the European Victory Medal, two Presidential Unit Citations, he was also awarded the French Legion of Honor for his World War II service.
This Fall a new series called “Masters of the Air” will launch This is the third part of the trilogy created by Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg that includes “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Lucky was interviewed for this series, and it will be a true privilege to hear from one of the last surviving and members of this valiant group.

Each Moment Matters Sponsors
Your gift or sponsorship makes each moment matter in the lives of our patients
Every 3 days, Faith Presbyterian Hospice must turn away one end-of-life patient who has little to no funds to pay for their care. We believe every human being deserves the most dignified, strong ending to life. This drives our goal of providing quality and compassionate care for these patients, while also extending care to their loved ones. Regardless of an individual’s age or health condition, we know that Each Moment Matters, and should be full of joy and meaning. Proceeds from this event provide assurance, peace and benevolent services to patients and families of Faith Presbyterian Hospice who live in our 13 county service area in North Texas.
