September Lunch and Learn Highlights LGBTQ Seniors

Forefront Living is committed to providing educational opportunities that reinforce the organization’s mission, vision and values for its teammates. One of the avenues of education is a monthly “Lunch and Learn” where teammates are invited to participate in an hour-long session discussing various topics.

September’s session focused on Increasing Empathy for LGBTQ Seniors and Providing a Welcoming Community for All led by Mindy Cheek, Greystone Senior Vice President and Volunteer Education Ambassador for the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging. In addition to being an established speaker and educator on aging and senior living, she is also the author of multiple articles and blogs, a frequent contributor to podcasts and is a TedTalk speaker. During the Lunch and Learn, Mindy shared ways to facilitate conversations, specifically with those who live and work with senior citizens, and discussed the history of struggles and discrimination that LGBT seniors have faced throughout their life.

The hour-long presentation provided statistics, tools and suggestions to increase tolerance, expand understanding and ended with five take-aways to implement to create a more inclusive environment for all.
